Taking part in a Shorewatch

Shorewatch – citizen science in Scotland

Watch out for whales and dolphins around Scotland with WDC Shorewatch

Scotland is an amazing place to see whales and dolphins safe and free; local Shorewatchers are taking action to make sure that it stays that way. Find out how to get involved or report your sightings.

SMASS & WDC Marine Forum - November 26th 2022

Bringing scientists and communities together to share knowledge, take action, sea change.

The Marine Forum is the Scottish Marine Stranding Scheme (SMASS) & WDC's annual knowledge exchange event, providing an opportunity for the exchange of ideas between researchers, citizen scientists, industry, NGO’s, and other parties interested in the marine environment and conservation.

The Marine Forum also celebrates the huge contribution our community volunteers make to understand and protect the marine environment.

This year marks the 30-year anniversary of SMASS, and as SMASS have moved to Glasgow. We will be hosting the Marine Forum at the Advanced Research Centre in the University of Glasgow.

At this year's event we are focusing on collaboration – between individuals, universities, industry, charities, NGO’s, policy, and beyond. We are telling the story of how marine science and conservation has evolved, from organisations largely working in isolation in the past, to increased collaboration and working together to achieve conservation goals.

This hybrid event will be both in person and streamed online, use the links to book your ticket.
