Why Support WDC?
Your philanthropy can have a huge impact on the lives of whales and dolphins and the marine environment in which they live.
Whales and dolphins are incredible, intelligent and unique creatures that play a crucial role in the health of our planet and have the right to life and freedom. However, there are many challenges and uncertainties that face us in our fight to create a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free. We need your support now more than ever.
Whales and dolphins continue to face cruel threats from hunting, capture, entanglement in nets, pollution and underwater noise. WDC is a leading expert in this field and with your generous support we can work together to be a vital advocate for whales and dolphins and put an end to these threats.
WDC is focussing on the following key areas to protect whales and dolphins and ensure we maximise our impact:
Stop whaling - Our goal is to reduce the numbers killed and the numbers of countries whaling. Our work includes fighting to stop whaling in Europe, Japan and around the world; reducing the demand for whale meat; and educating communities about whale watching as an alternative.
End captivity - Our goal is to reduce the numbers held in captivity and develop sanctuaries, or release programmes, for those held. We are creating sea sanctuaries for captive whales and dolphins; stopping the supply of whales and dolphins to captive facilities; and ending the demand for whale and dolphins shows.
Ending bycatch - Our goal is to reduce the number of whale and dolphins killed and injured through entanglement in fishing. We are working with governments to ensure laws are toughened up; are teaming up with scientists and fishermen to find safer fishing methods; and fighting to save species on the brink of extinction.
Creating safe and healthy seas - Our goal is to increase the number of effective protected areas for whales and dolphins in national waters and on the high seas. We are working with international bodies and governments to designate protected areas in the places whales and dolphins need them most.
Rights for whales and dolphins - Our goal is to gain the recognition of the rights of whales and dolphins. We are working to integrate the ecological role of whales and dolphins into global policies on biodiversity, climate change, environment, conservation, fisheries and MPAs (Marine Protected Areas) and establish the recognition of whale and dolphin cultures into global and local conservation policy.

Every whale and dolphin - safe & free
There are 4 vital ways that we are fighting for the survival of whales and dolphins.
Together we can:

End captivity
Whales and dolphins have a right to live free and healthy lives. These highly intelligent individuals should not suffer for human entertainment.

Stop whaling
Commercial whaling is illegal. And yet, every year, Japan, Norway and Iceland kill around 1,500 whales.

Create healthy seas
Commercial fishing, oil and gas drilling, and shipping are threatening the lives of whales and dolphins.

Prevent deaths in nets
Hundreds of thousands of whales and dolphins are accidentally caught and killed in fishing gear every year.
