Meet Salt

This month, our featured adoption whale is Salt. She lives in the western Atlantic Ocean, spending the summer months in the Gulf of Maine before migrating south to the Caribbean for the winter. She is at least 45 years old. Salt has had a total of 14 calves and is a great grandmother!

Salt spends her summers feeding in the rich waters off the coast of New England, but faces many dangers, including entanglement in fishing gear and collisions with ships.

Meet Charlie

Charlie is the 18-year-old son of Kesslet, and we see Charlie anywhere between Inverness Harbour and the Cromarty Firth and beyond – he travels around quite a lot. Although you can find him on his own now and again (quite normal for male dolphins) he loves nothing more than larking around with his many buddies, particularly younger dolphins of both sexes, and can be seen as part of a large group hunting up and down the coastline for shoals of fish.

Charlie was brought up as an ‘urban dolphin’ growing up right next to a busy harbour which a salmon river runs right through – very handy for a big fishy meal that you don’t have to work very hard to get.

Meet Fife

Fife lives on the Pacific coast of western Canada. Fife is an intriguing character who commands increasing respect within his community. He is a captivating presence and traverses the world accompanied by his beloved family.

However, a poignant chapter of his life remains untold, as he has never had the opportunity to meet his sister, Corky, who was tragically taken from the sea and has endured captivity since 1969.

In 2003, Fife endured a harrowing experience when he suffered a severe wound on his back, most likely inflicted by a boat propeller. Yet, displaying remarkable resilience, he has since made a full recovery, a testament to his indomitable spirit.

As Fife’s tale continues to unfold, we are eager to witness the next chapters of his life and the impact he will undoubtedly make on his community.
