Spirit is a very active and social female dolphin. She has four daughters (who were all named by our adopt a dolphin supporters): Sparkle, Shimmer, Sprite and the youngest, Spriggan. Sparkle gave birth in 2015 so we think Spirit is one of the youngest grandmothers in this population of bottlenose dolphins.
It is lovely to see the whole family swimming around the Inner Moray Firth and along the coast together, exploring, hunting and socialising. Spirit loves a good get-together and has a big group of friends who travel over wide areas of this coastline, from Spey Bay to North Kessock near Inverness – it can be tricky working out where they will turn up next. She’s also very cheeky, often playing games and teaching her family how to become independent dolphins.
