Las Vegas dolphin facility to close

captive dolphin

Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat in Las Vegas is to permanently close.

The facility is part of The Mirage complex and has been open for more than three decades but, following the property's sale to Hard Rock International, the decision has been made to permanently close the garden and habitat.

Whilst it is good to see the closure of yet another captive facility, it is likely that these dolphins will be moved to other facilities and so their sad lives performing for human 'fun' will continue.

Keeping whales and dolphins in tanks for entertainment is cruel and archaic. These intelligent creatures would roam for miles each day in the wild but in captivity they are imprisoned. Confinement causes repetitive behaviour, and they live shorter lives than they would in the ocean. It is for these reasons that we are encouraging people not to go to see these shows and we are supporting wild sea sanctuary projects.
