WDC handed ‘life raft’ donation

Axolot Games and Redbeet Interactive have made an incredible donation to WDC of $100,000 from their Steam weekend sale featuring ocean survival game RAFT.
The Steam Weekend Deal saw 15% of the net developer profits going directly to WDC, supporting our work across the globe to protect whales and dolphins from the many threats they face, helping to improve the health of the ocean and its ability to fight climate breakdown.
RAFT is a popular ocean survival game which throws you and your friends into an epic oceanic adventure. In order to survive, you must build and fortify your raft using floating rubbish you collect from the ocean, like plastic bottles and pieces of wood – an unfortunate reflection on the state of the ocean today.
Ocean plastic pollution is a huge threat for whales and dolphins and all marine life. Plastics are toxic, they remain in the environment for hundreds of years breaking up into smaller and smaller pieces and they choke marine life. Between 19 and 23 million metric tonnes of plastic are estimated to have entered the marine environment in 2016, with 67% of all whale and dolphin species affected.
“Plastic pollution is a global environmental crisis, because it never goes away.” says Sally Ward, WDC Partnerships Officer, “Yet with partners like Axolot and Redbeet, and through games like RAFT that really resonate with our supporters, we are able to continue our vital work protecting whales and dolphins from threats like plastic pollution. These ocean giants are vital in maintaining a healthy ocean, and a healthy ocean helps reduce the effects of climate change.”
“We are super happy and proud to be able to support the important cause of WDC!” Says André Bengtsson, CEO of Redbeet Interactive “A huge thanks to all our players for the positive feedback around the sale, and a huge thanks to the helpful people at WDC for this great cooperation! “
"We are happy to support WDC that is helping whales and dolphins to thrive in a safe environment away from harm." Adds Kacper Antonius, CEO of Axolot Games.
On behalf of all whales and dolphins across the world – we’d like to thank Axolot Games, Redbeet Interactive and Steam for their incredibly generous support.
