UPDATE – A (virtual) dolphin experience like no other

Last year, we announced our exciting collaboration with media production company Cyan Planet, on the development and production of an upcoming immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experience – How is the Water.

How is the Water is a Virtual Reality video game and the ultimate ocean experience. It tells the story of the ocean through the eyes of a dolphin, and is an adventure that will bring you face-to-face with its creatures and many wonders.

Since our announcement, the VR game has made significant progress and has now reached a vital stage - a Kickstarter campaign has been launched to help finance its development.  Kickstarter is a funding platform that helps bring creative projects to life by offering people a chance to financially back a creator’s project so they can make it a reality.

By backing Cyan Planet’s Kickstarter campaign, you can support the development of this amazing VR dolphin experience, and help bring it to life. Once How Is The Water has been successful funded via the Kickstarter, Cyan Planet will be able to complete its development and a final product is planned for release later in the year - sales of which will be directly supporting WDC’s conservation work*.

“We’re really excited to be partnering with Cyan Planet on this virtual reality game” says Sally Ward, WDC partnerships officer. “Whales and dolphins are fascinating creatures and we hope people will connect to the ocean through this virtual experience and be inspired to not only appreciate and respect these beautiful beings, but take action to protect them from the many threats they face every day.”

Cyan Planet specialises in marine-oriented immersive media applications and tools for education, marine conservation, and science communication. Their mission is to evoke empathy for the ocean through deep emotional experiences by using the power of virtual reality and immersive media to inspire, educate about the science of marine ecosystems, and to create a global community that acts for marine conservation.

If you would like to back this incredible project and take a look at the amazing rewards available, visit Cyan Planet’s Kickstarter page.

*Note –a financial contribution to this Kickstarter is NOT a donation to WDC. It will contribute towards Cyan Planet and their development costs of this virtual reality game. Once the game is financed and developed, WDC will receive income from the sale of the game, likely to be released later in 2021.
