Swiss International Air Lines says NO to carrying dolphins

WDC’s ongoing campaign to persuade airlines who are members of the Star Alliance group not to transport dolphins around the world has seen more success with the confirmation from Swiss International Air Lines that their freight subsiduary, Swiss WorldCargo, is not involved in the practice. In a message confirming its position to WDC, the airline stated that it “…condemns the unethical treatment of any animals, including dolphins.”

Every year hundreds of dolphins are killed in brutal hunts in Taiji, Japan after being round up. Other dolphins are removed and sold to the captivity industry. While some end up in marine parks within Japan, others are transported by air to dolphinaria in various parts of the world. We need airlines to stop supporting this lucrative trade that helps the continuation of the slaughter.

If you would like to write to Star Alliance, then please do! Ask them to listen to international opinion and use Star Alliance’s influence to help its members develop position statements against carrying live, wild-caught dolphins. Do send a copy of your email to us at info@whales.org and forward on any response you might receive.  Or, if you are on Facebook, you can direct message them: https://www.facebook.com/staralliance/
