New UK marine protected sites for harbour porpoises submitted to Europe!

Following years of campaigning, WDC is over the moon that the English and Welsh Harbour Porpoise Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) have been submitted to the European Commission. These sites are now designated for management purposes, and WDC looks forward to taking part in productive discussions towards robust management measures of activities that take place within them, to ensure that those activities are fit for purpose and not impact porpoises.

Thank you to more than 8500 of you who contributed to the consultation and supported these sites and our efforts.

This latest success comes after Scotland announced the creation of its first Conservation Area for porpoises in September.
