Baby product giant launches partnership with WDC to help end orca captivity
Leading US-based baby product company, Munchkin, has partnered with WDC to launch a campaign to help end the captivity of whales and dolphins.
The “Orcas Live in Oceans” campaign kick-started with a $1 million dollar pledge by Munchkin to help build a coastal ocean sanctuary in the United States for captive orcas if SeaWorld agrees to free one of the orcas it holds in captivity – Tilikum. The “Orcas Live in Oceans” campaign includes multiple levels of commitment by Munchkin, including a decision to remove from sale its orca bath toys, and also donating funds from product sales to help WDC’s anti-captivity work. Members of the public can also support the cause by donating themselves.
“Here at Munchkin, we’re putting our principles before profits to help raise awareness for this cause,” said Steven Dunn, CEO and founder of Munchkin. “After 10 years of including a toy orca as part of our top-selling Sea Squirt Bath Toy collection, Munchkin will no longer include an orca in the set because a bathtub just isn’t big enough for an orca.”
