Breach, the documentary on Icelandic whaling is now available worldwide!

I’m delighted to herald the worldwide release of Breach, a must-see documentary on Icelandic whaling. WDC has encouraged and supported US-based independent film-maker Jonny Zwick, who is also the film’s producer and director, since its inception as a Kickstarter back in February 2014.

The fact that Breach exists at all is testament to Jonny’s determination as a film-maker to expose the brutal slaughter of fin and minke whales off Iceland, but also to showcase the many positives, not least Iceland’s massively successful whale watch industry which is at least ten times more valuable to Iceland’s economy than whaling.

Jonny interviews many Icelanders – whalers, whale watchers, scientists, conservationists and members of the public – and it is their recollections and opinions which offer a fascinating insight into what is an increasingly controversial subject, both at home and abroad. Perhaps Jonny’s greatest feat has been to simply let the whalers and those who support whaling speak, revealing their motivations and on occasion, damning themselves with their own words.

Narrated by actor Billy Baldwin, Breach has been well-received at film festivals and screenings in the US but this is the first time that the film is available to the viewing public worldwide via Vimeo. Breach will also be released on Amazon Prime on 1st November.
