Crowds voice opposition to Taiji dolphin hunts at Japanese Embassy

WDC supporters and volunteers were amongst the crowd of protesters who attended an event at the Japanese Embassy in London on Sept. 1st to mark the start of the dolphin drive hunt season in Taiji. Events were also held to mark the occasion in Taiji itself.

Taiji dolphin hunt protest at Japanese Embassy

The annual hunt, during which hundreds of dolphins are herded into a small cove before being brutally killed by fishermen, has received worldwide condemnation. In addition to those dolphins killed in the hunt, others are removed and sold to the captivity industry to be displayed in marine parks in Japan and other countries.

A few months ago, the Japanese Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) was forced to tell its members to stop obtaining dolphins from Taiji after the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) threatened JAZA with expulsion over the issue.

WDC is continuing our campaign to get airlines to stop transporting those dolphins sold to marine parks overseas and help end this cruel practice.
