There be a mutiny at Spey Bay this Sunday on Pirate Day!
With the end of the six weeks holidays coming near here at the Scottish Dolphin Centre we will be celebrating in style! Over the past few weeks we have been seeing lots of dolphin activity with pod sizes ranging from just two individuals to twelve! The ospreys who will be preparing for their long migration back to Africa have been spotted fishing at the mouth of the River Spey multiple times a day and a peregrine falcon has been seen around the Bay. However on Sunday it won’t just be dolphins being spotted at the Scottish Dolphin Centre…
Pirates, pirates, pirates! The team at the Scottish Dolphin Centre are already getting into the spirit of pirate day and we all have our costumes raring to go! Yes that’s right, even the staff will be dressed up as pirates on the day! So eye patches at the ready as there will be a fancy dress competition for the best dressed boy and girl pirate which will be announced at the end of the day. So come down to Spey Bay and see how many pirates ye can count!
No pirate is complete without their eye patch so why not make one whilst you are here? Once your costume is complete it will be time to partake in Blackbeard’s Pirate Training Treasure Hunt. He will take ye around Spey Bay and teach ye how to be a fully fledge pirate and on completion ye will receive ye very own pirate certificate. There will be pirate games a plenty for little and big pirates alike; we’ll see how well ye all walk the plank! No day is complete without a bit of face painting or even an airbrush tattoo.
All the pirate antics make for thirsty and hungry work. The Scottish Dolphin Centre’s café will be turned into a pirate galley for one day only and will be putting on an impressive spread. From Polly’s crackers, to shiver me timbers Knickerbocker glories, to pirate boat panini’s.
It will be a fun packed day out for the whole family. The event starts at 10:30am until 4:30pm and there is no need to book in advance.
With a day full of pirate antics and the possibility of being able to spot the largest bottlenose dolphins in the entire world that live in the Moray Firth why not head down to Spey Bay on Sunday 17th August and join in the fun.
