HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

The 4th of July is a celebration of America’s Independence from the English CROWN.  In 1776, several PATRIOTs gathered together in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to write the Declaration of Independence.  It lays out the reasons why independence was so important to the colonies; the most essential being the inalienable right to life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness.  Although he was not part of the committee who wrote the document, John HANCOCK was the first man to sign, and has the most memorable signature since it is the largest.

Pennsylvania and MASSACHUSETTS are huge attractions for people who want to learn more about the establishment of our country.  Both these states are rich in history and have erected MONUMENTs dedicated to the YANKEEs who we now know as our founding fathers.

Friends and families often gather together and have a COOKOUT to celebrate the holiday.  STREAMERs are hung around the backyard and CONFETTI is scattered around tables to decorate.   The adults can be found cooking hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, and making potato salad and corn on the cob in the kitchen. Children have fun writing their names in the air with SPARKLERs, or trying to catch a FIREFLY in the yard.  Once the sun goes down, magnificent firework displays can be seen in the sky.

Adults and children alike don red, white, and blue apparel to show pride for their country.  Shirts, hats, and even shoes display the STARs and STRIPES for this historic day.  Towns and cities across the country raise the United States FLAG and sing the national ANTHEM with pride.  July 4th is a landmark day which made America the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

WDC NA wishes everyone a safe and happy 4th of July!
