HotSpots – A Round Up of Recent UK Sightings

Some lucky (and hardy!) individuals reported some remarkable whale and dolphin sightings in UK waters during this last winter and spring. Harbour porpoise, bottlenose dolphins, white beaked dolphins and even a pod of orcas were spotted in the waters off Scotland and northern England between December 2013 and May 2014.

Harbour porpoise numbering three in total were seen on two occasions, first heading north and then heading south from South Bay, Scarborough, on 16th February 2014.

On 19th April 2014, a pod of five orcas, including two males and three females, was seen on two occasions off Rattray Head in northeast Scotland, first from St Combs at about midday and then again at about 1.30pm from Fraserburgh Lighthouse Museum.

In some exciting news, a pod of five bottlenose dolphins including at least two young was seen in the waters off Rubha Crainn, Isle of Skye, on 20th April 2014.

And finally, on 24th May 2014, a pod of at least six white beaked dolphins appeared riding the bow waves of a boat in the waters off Yorkshire. What a breath-taking sight they must have been!

There is so much to see out there so KEEP SPOTTING and sending us your sightings, photos and videos. Here’s how to tell us what you see
