Killer whale film Blackfish makes Oscar shortlist

Blackfish, the acclaimed film about the plight of orcas in captivity has made the shortlist for next year’s Oscars. Blackfish is one of 15 films now left in the race for Best Documentary Feature.

The Academy’s Documentary Branch determined the shortlist in a preliminary round of voting and will now select the just five nominees from among the 15 titles. Those nominees will be announced on Thursday, January 16 along with the rest of the 2014 Oscar nominations.
