West End boy heads East
In what appears to be a first for the UK’s only resident orca population, some members of the so-called ‘west coast community’ showed up off the east coast of Scotland last week. Two males and one female were spotted off Peterhead and Girdle Ness in Aberdeenshire. One of the males was the legendary John Coe, the most distinctive member of this community of just nine animals. His dorsal fin has a huge V-shaped notch on its trailing edge making him unmistakable.
