Pitiful waste – WDC witnesses fin whale butchery

Another fin whale was landed at the Hvalur station at Hvalfjörður this evening, bringing the total this season to 35.  WDC staff, in Iceland to monitor whaling activities, tracked the return of the Hvalur 8 from the whaling grounds and travelled to the remote processing station in time to see the animal, a juvenile male only 12-13m long, towed up the slipway and butchered – only metres from crew family members.
