WDC Meets With Obama's Administration In Washington, DC

WDC addresses the White House’s Office of Management and Budget.

On Thursday April 11, 2013 Regina Asmutis-Silvia, WDC Executive Director, NA traveled to Washington, DC to address the plight of the right whale with government appointed decision makers.

Representatives from WDC, The Humane Society of the United States, Defenders of Wildlife and the Society for Conservation Biology joined forces to present the need to bolster protection for the North Atlantic right whale. In a meeting with members of the Obama Administration they made a plea to protect the remaining 500 right whales by extending the ship strike speed rule  The rule, set to expire in December 2013, is under review by the White House’s Office of Management and Budget.

“I made it known to officials that, according to NOAA’s own data, shipping delays resulting from the rule have merely ranged from only 2 to 36 minutes.  I also drew attention to the fact that data conclusively shows that the rule is working and needs additional time in place to allow North Atlantic right whales the time required to recover.”  stated Regina Asmutis-Silvia
