Orcas off Vancouver IslandLast week, WDC heard of a plan to put sea turbines in the waters off Vancouver Island, Canada, right in an area that orcas, humpacks, Dall’s porpoises and Steller sea lions live in.

Turbines are used to create energy from wind and waves for example, and WDC is not against their use. But these turbines would have been put in a very important area for orcas – including Holly, Pointer and co. that some of you may adopt with WDC. They would have created huge amounts of noise and put the whales in danger of serious injury.

The plans led to a huge number of complaints from WDC supporters and other members of the public, and now the company behind the plan has pulled out after being convinced that it was a bad idea.

We have been sent some beautiful footage of the orcas in the area from whale research project and long-standing WDC partner organization, OrcaLab. Please take a look!
