The IWC breaks for lunch whilst Greenland tells the IWC that it won't stop serving whale meat for lunch to tourists
Greenland seems pretty angry at the WDCS and AWI investigations into their abuse of the ASW quota that they received last time.
They state,
- That the authorities of Greenland hadn’t been contacted for this research (afraid it would not have done us any good to have told them we were looking at their commercialization)
- That selling whale meat is legal in Greenland (but to whom WDCS asks?)
- That they don’t rule who is enabled to eat whale meat and who no and they won’t do it in the future as they have no racial politics.
So Greenland has announced that it will continue with its commercial whaling and challenged the IWC to say no to its quota proposal.
Will the EU actually endorse a proposal that includes the commercial killing of whales?
Maybe in twenty years time, if the moratorium has fallen, this will be the point when we look back and say it was the vote that allowed this to happen!
