Captivity in the EU - Slovakia

Dolphinaria are included in national zoo legislation, but there are no specific standards for the keeping of these animals in captivity.

Slovakia is a member of the IWC (International Whaling Commission) and has been since 2005. Slovakia supports the global moratorium on commercial whaling.

Slovakia is also a Party to CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) since it joined in 1993. CITES is an international agreement between governments which aims to ensure international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. All whales and dolphins are listed in the CITES appendices.
